FAQ's

What is NDIS Short Term Accomodation (STA)

Short-term accommodation, also known as respite care, provides funding for lodging and support to individuals who need to stay away from their primary residence for a short period. The funding covers the expenses of care provision in alternative settings for up to 14 days. Short-term stays can be communal or solitary, depending on the individual's preference. These stays are usually subsidised in cases where regular caregivers are unavailable or for individuals seeking new experiences.

How can I access REDY STA?

To access STA, simply get in touch with us and enlist the help of your Support Coordinator. Our objective is to help you achieve your NDIS goals by finding the best experiences in South East Queensland. We offer a wide variety of options that can help you accomplish your STA objectives and make your STAycation unforgettable, with numerous capacity-building activities that are customized to your needs.

Who will be supporting me during my STA?

The NDIS STA Operational Guidelines guidelines state that participants may have a short stay with others or alone. This type of stay is often funded when their usual carers are not available or when they want to try new things. Participants can attend their REDY STA alone, and we will personalise a support team for them. During the onboarding process, we will ask questions to discover what participants need in their team, providing them with the necessary choices for a comfortable stay.

Im a parent of an NDIS Participant, Can I book a REDY STA for him/her?

NDIS may fund short-term accommodation for children who meet the eligibility criteria. Funding depends on the child's needs, family situation, and carers. Specific funding for STA may need to be included in your child's plan. Contact your LAC, NDIS Planner, or the NDIS directly to check eligibility.

What will I receive after my STA?

We are committed to providing excellent programming and dedicated support to all NDIS participants. As part of our service, we create a comprehensive STA report called the 'Journey Book.' This report includes progress notes conducted after each day of service, summarising all the crucial details of your daily life during your stay. The report can be used for future NDIS reviews and as a reference for your care providers and support coordinators. It includes information on your day-to-day activities and locations, how you achieved your goals, and your plans for future STAs to ensure we keep you on track along your NDIS journey.

Can I use STA in a crisis situation?

If you are presently without a home, please contact your NDIS representatives for assistance and advice. In certain situations where there is a danger of harm, the NDIS may provide funding for Short Term Accommodation (STA) for a limited time. Before making a decision, they will assess all pertinent aspects of your situation.

Do I have to be Plan-Managed, Self-Managed or NDIS-Managed to access STA?

Good news: REDY STA works to deliver the best experience for ALL NDIS Participants

How do I know if I have sufficient funds to cover my REDY STA?

If you are an NDIS participant and need to cover your STA, REDY suggests that you speak to your plan manager, support coordinator, LAC, or a family member to check whether there are enough funds allocated to cover this expense in your NDIS plan. You can access your NDIS portal to view your available funds.

Can I use STA in a crisis situation?

If you are currently homeless, we encourage you to reach out to your NDIS representatives for support and guidance. In certain situations, the NDIS may be able to provide funding for Short-Term Accommodation (STA) for a limited period of time if there is a risk of harm and after considering all relevant factors of your circumstances. Please don't hesitate to contact your NDIS representatives to explore your options and get the help you need.

How can I best assist my client to consider an STA with REDY?

We need written plan manager approval for all REDY STAs before we can start facilitating the requested service. We may not be able to pre-reserve your client's preferred STA accommodation options due to provider policies, so it's best to plan ahead. This will allow time for pre-reservation options, which decrease closer to the check-in date, and for us to secure plan manager approval for the STA. Managing client expectations is crucial.

Will there be any out of pocket expenses with a REDY STA?

Currently, REDY STA offers support to both Plan-Managed and Self-Managed participants of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
