What is an NDIS STA?
Short-term accommodation, which includes respite care, provides financial support for lodging and care for individuals who need to stay away from their primary residence for brief periods. This funding covers the expenses associated with care provision in alternative settings for up to 14 days. Such stays can be communal or solitary and are commonly subsidized when regular caregivers are unavailable or for individuals seeking new experiences.

Our STA Experiences
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
What is NDIS Short Term Accomodation (STA)
NDIS Short Term Accommodation (STA), also known as respite care, provides funding for temporary stays away from home for up to 14 days. This support includes both accommodation and personal care in a safe and supported environment. STA can help participants take a break from their usual routine, support informal carers, or try new experiences. You can choose to stay alone or with others, depending on your preferences.
How can I access REDY STA?
Accessing Redy STA is simple. You can get in touch with our team directly and involve your Support Coordinator to assist with the process. We will help you find the best experience in South East Queensland that suits your NDIS goals. We offer a wide range of tailored STA options designed to make your stay enjoyable and meaningful.
Who will be supporting me during my STA?
Your support team will be matched to your individual needs. During the onboarding process, we will ask questions to understand your preferences, goals, and care requirements. This helps us assign the right staff to support you during your stay. Whether you attend STA on your own or with others, you will be supported by trained, friendly, and experienced staff throughout your time with us.
Im a parent of an NDIS Participant, Can I book a REDY STA for him/her?
Yes. Parents or guardians can request STA for a child if it is supported by their NDIS plan. STA funding for children depends on their needs, the family situation, and the availability of informal supports. We recommend speaking with your child’s Local Area Coordinator (LAC), NDIS planner, or support coordinator to confirm eligibility and plan details.
What will I receive after my STA?
Every participant receives a personalised report called the 'Journey Book'. This includes daily progress notes, a summary of activities, goals worked on, and support provided. The report can be used for future NDIS reviews and to support communication between you, your care providers, and your Support Coordinator.
Can I use STA in a crisis?
Yes, in certain crisis situations, the NDIS may provide temporary funding for STA. This could apply if you are at risk of harm or facing temporary homelessness. You should contact your NDIS representative as soon as possible to discuss your situation and explore support options. Once approved, Redy can assist in coordinating an STA.
Do I have to be Plan-Managed, Self-Managed or NDIS-Managed to access STA?
Redy STA is available to all NDIS participants, regardless of how your plan is managed. We support participants who are Self-Managed, Plan-Managed, or NDIS-Managed, and we are happy to work with your representatives to ensure everything is arranged smoothly.
How do I know if I have sufficient funds to cover my REDY STA?
To check your available funding for STA, you can: Log into your NDIS participant portal, speak with your plan manager, Support Coordinator, LAC, or a trusted family member. Our team can also assist you in understanding what options are available based on your current plan.
Can I use STA in a crisis situation?
If you are currently homeless, we encourage you to reach out to your NDIS representatives for support and guidance. In certain situations, the NDIS may be able to provide funding for Short-Term Accommodation (STA) for a limited period of time if there is a risk of harm and after considering all relevant factors of your circumstances. Please don't hesitate to contact your NDIS representatives to explore your options and get the help you need.
How can I help my NDIS Participant plan an STA with Redy?
If you are a Support Coordinator or representative, please ensure you: Obtain written approval from the client's Plan Manager. Please contact us early, as pre-reserving accommodation can become more difficult closer to the date of stay. Allow enough time for onboarding and approvals. Planning ahead is important for managing expectations and ensuring the best possible outcome for your client.
Will there be any out-of-pocket expenses for a Redy STA?
Most STA costs are covered under a participant’s NDIS plan. Redy currently supports Plan-Managed and Self-Managed participants. We will confirm all funding and services in advance. If any additional expenses apply, these will be clearly explained before your stay.
